GRAYSON, Ky. – Kentucky Electric Cooperatives has recognized state Rep. Patrick Flannery of Olive Hill with its 2026 Power Partner Award, honoring his leadership on issues important to Kentucky’s electric cooperatives and the members they serve.
Flannery represents Carter and Lewis counties and a portion of Boyd County and serves on the House Natural Resources and Energy Committee. He is also a member of the Kentucky Rural Electric Cooperative Caucus.
During the 2026 Regular Session, Flannery served as House floor manager for Senate Bill 172, legislation addressing the fuel adjustment clause used by electric utilities. The measure focused on protecting consumers from sudden increases in electric bills when extreme weather and other circumstances cause fuel costs to rise sharply.
“One of the greatest challenges facing Kentuckians today is the cost of keeping the lights on,” Flannery said. “Families, farmers and small businesses need an affordable, reliable supply of electricity they can count on. As energy costs continue to put pressure on household budgets, we must work to protect consumers from sudden price increases while ensuring Kentucky has the dependable power supply our communities need.”
Kentucky Electric Cooperatives presents its Power Partner Award to policymakers who demonstrate an understanding of the issues affecting electric cooperatives and a commitment to the people and communities they serve.
“Representative Flannery understands that affordability and reliability are not abstract policy discussions. They have a direct impact on the families, farmers and businesses our electric cooperatives serve,” said Chris Perry, president and CEO of Kentucky Electric Cooperatives. “His work during the 2026 legislative session demonstrated a willingness to dig into complicated energy issues and pursue practical solutions that protect consumers while preserving the reliable electricity Kentucky communities depend on. We appreciate his partnership and are proud to recognize him as a Power Partner.”
Flannery’s district includes members served by Fleming-Mason Energy and Grayson Rural Electric Cooperative Corporation, two of Kentucky’s local and member-owned electric cooperatives.
“Electric cooperatives play an important role in keeping our communities powered and supporting Kentucky’s economy,” Flannery said. “I appreciate Kentucky Electric Cooperatives, particularly Fleming-Mason Energy Cooperative and Grayson Rural Electric for their work on behalf of their members. We must continue to pursue practical solutions that keep electricity affordable and reliable for the people who depend on it every day.”
