Summer’s winding down, and it’s hard to believe the Kentucky General Assembly will be back in Frankfort in four short months. The Kentucky Association of Electric Cooperatives and our partners at East Kentucky Power and Big Rivers Electric have been attending committee meetings, legislative conferences and meeting with individual members of the Kentucky Legislature on issues important to our co-op members. We look forward to welcoming over 20 new legislative members in January and educating them on electric cooperative issues. The legislature will meet for 30 legislative days in 2019.

It is important to note we will vote for all of our state’s constitutional officers in 2019. This includes Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State, State Treasurer, State Auditor and Commissioner of Agriculture.

The most notable news is that Governor Matt Bevin announced his intention to seek re-election. Also, in the race for Governor is current Attorney General Andy Beshear. The filing deadline is still months away, so be on the lookout for more to enter that race.
