State Rep. Jim Gooch, of Providence, has been appointed treasurer of the Southern States Energy Board executive committee. Representing the 12th House district, Gooch has served on the board since 2013 and will now play a pivotal role in shaping regional energy policy across 16 states and two territories. The SSEB facilitates interstate cooperation on energy technologies and programs, ensuring the South’s priorities are represented in national policy discussions. Gooch is a 2023 recipient of the Kentucky Electric Cooperatives Power Partner Award and a member of the Kentuck Rural Electric Cooperatives Caucus.

“We are truly at a crossroads with energy in America today and the Southern States Energy Board plays a major role in determining our future,” Gooch says. “This appointment is both an honor and a responsibility that I will continue to approach with great care and commitment. Serving in a leadership role on the board allows Kentucky to have a strong voice in shaping regional energy policy and ensuring our priorities are represented at the table.”
