2022 Lineman’s Rodeo

The rodeo will be held at Jackson Purchase Energy.

LODGING: The following hotels have been designated for our use: Fairfield Inn Marriott, Candlewood Suites and Hampton Inn & Suites. Please make your reservations ASAP. Contact kgibson@kyelectric.coop with any questions or issues when booking rooms. If you need to cancel your room reservations, the hotel requests you do so no later than 48 hours in advance.

Rodeo Itinerary: 

All times are in Central Standard Time. 

Wednesday, September 28 

4-6:30 p.m.–registration open on site 

KRUS Golf outing 

Thursday, September 29 

7:00 a.m.–mandatory judges and clerk meeting 

7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.–registration 

8 a.m.–welcome, national anthem, prayer 

8:30 a.m.–begin apprentice, individual and senior events 

United Utility Supply sponsored evening event 

Friday, September 30 

7:00 a.m.–judges and clerk meeting 

7:30 a.m.–lineman memorial 

8:30 a.m–events start 

12-3 p.m.–lunch served 

30 minutes after conclusion of events–awards ceremony

Required contestant Equipment:

  • Hooks
  • Fall Arrest device
  • Hard hat
  • Safety glasses
  • Tool bucket
  • Extendo stick
  • Handline
  • Grip (minimum 2)
  • Lone sleeve shirt
  • Hand tools
  • 20 kv rubber gloves / protectors & rubber sleeves
  • Work gloves (leather or mechanic style)
  • 8′ shotgun stick
  • Hot hoist (minimum 2)
  • 8′ 1/0 ground chain (minimum 6)

NOTE: Buckingham ox-blocks may be used with handlines. The Buckingham ox-hook, orange Bashlin “rodeo” hooks, or any OSHA approved handline hook may be used. “Bullheads” or other extendo stick heads/ fingers may be used. Homemade or “altered” attachments will not be allowed.

Rodeo Q&A:

  1. What kind of insulators and ties are going to be used? – 25kv Hendrix(HPI-25-01) on the pin insulator change event.  Poly Pin Insulator(HPI-55-4) on the Lightning Strike Event.  Preform ties are Super Top Ties(STT40)
  2. Is the cutout mounted to the crossarm or an MIF on the Lightning Strike Event? – It will be on the crossarm
  3. What kind of crossarms and distance between arm on the Crossarm Tag Team Event? – Wood crossarms spaced 8ft apart from the top down.
  4. What type braces are used on the Crossarm Tag Team Event? – It is a 28” wood brace(J5526)
  5. Do you have to remove the bolts from the pole when performing the Crossarm Tag Team Event? – YES.  The event must end with a bare pole.
  6. What is the wire span length for the Wire & Equipment Transfer Event? – 100ft.
  7. What is the distance between the dead-end poles for the Wire & Equipment Transfer Event? – 10 feet
  8. Do the bolts for the MIF bracket( F1CA-MV-A18-C4-H) on the Wire & Equipment Transfer Event have to be transferred? – The bottom bolt must transfer.  The top bolt will be in place on each pole and bracket will slide over that bolt.
